OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL EX-GIRLS’ CLUB
At the September meeting held in j the Otago Women’s Club on Monday 1 evening last, the president, Miss F. | M. Allan, in her opening remarks referred to the outbreak of 'war, and on behalf of the members affirmed the club’s loyalty to His Majesty the King. ! All present then sang The National! Anthem. | The programme for the evening had i been arranged by members of the I School staff and proved to be most en- 1 tertaining and original. Miss M. H. M. King introduced the programme which consisted of moving pictures of New Zealand and the Otago Girls’ High School sports. This was followed by a spelling bee won by Miss Helen Bali, a charade, and community singing under the leadership of Mr Roy Spackman and Miss Molly Johnson. Mrs Martin made an appeal to all members for gifts for the Makogai Mission, and it is hoped that a good response to this worthy cause will result. Opportunity was taken during the evening of making a presentation to the club secretary. Miss Stella Bayley, who has held office with conspicuous
success for a number of years. Miss F. M. Allan, in making the presentation of a tortoise shell and silver toilet set and two books, referred to Miss Bayley’s sterling qualities and capabilities, ' and these remarks were en-
dorsed by Miss King. The members then sang heartily ‘ For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.’ Miss Bayley suitably replied and the evening closed with tha singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne * an! The National Anthem*
