December 9.—Roxburgh T.C. was not until six years later that the cup was run at Geraldine. In 1881 the present course at Orari was gazetted as a reserve, and since then it has been the headquarters of the Geraldine Racing Club. Bred by Mr George Kain. The Cardinal, who emerged from hack class by winning the Avondale Cup last week, was bred by Mr George Kain at Orari. He also bred Night Eruption, winner of a maiden race at the Foxton meeting. The latter is a Jour-year-old filly by Nightmarch from Mol to. by Paper Money from Lava. Night Eruption was purchased at the 1937 sales for 40gs. GERALDINE MEETING Pink Robe looked to have Jewish Lac) beaten half a mile from home in the hurdle race at Orari yesterday, but the latter came again over the last two furlongs arid the difference of 161 b in the weights stopped Pink Robe. Travenna was finishing on steadily, but had a lot of ground to make nip owing to making a bad jump early. Ballad again showed he requires a strong horseman to control him, and C. Humphries was not able to hold him on to the second hurdle.

Lady Don fairly and squarely beat St. Cloud in the Ohapi Handicap. The former had every chance, being;' first out, but over the last furlong the Oam-aru-owned filly finished too steadily and had St. Cloud beaten a long way from home. . Night Wings was unlucky in the Geraldine Cup. Starting from the outside of the line at the barrier, she was unable to get a good position until racing along the back. She was within striking distance approaching the home turn, but then got carried out into the middle of the course and was unbalanced for the run home. Vnlantua was unlucky. The stable apprentice was chopped out at the start and was never able to get a good position. Balmenter was a bit slow to begin and always raced nearer the tail than the front of the field.

Brilliant Boa was neglected in the Ruakapuka Handicap and ran as he was backed. King Gustavo, the Dunedin Guineas candidate, was always prominent, and under a stronger horseman greatly improved on the form shown at Ashburton. - The race should do him good for the classic engagement.

Night Pal was a quiet chat for the Belfield Handicap, but though to the front in tho first three furlongs, was beaten for speed when Wardress and Knight Commander raced past him, and only Master Dingle was behind him at the finish.

Queen Dorothy showed a return to last year’s form by beating Toro-Koura for second money in the Squatters’ Handicap. She had no chance with Gay Parade, but on her form yesterday should be returned a winner before long. Silver Streak was always handy, but lacked his old brilliance when the final stages were reached.
