“ HOW THE 8.8. HAS HELPED ME.” ■

For close on four years now the Boys*' Brigade has been ray only hobby, iny only spare-time occupation, and my only interest outside my school work (writes a n.c.0.). When ' I first started, and was so keen and enthusiastic, as most young recruits are, myfather, knowing me-of old, said that it was only a “ flash in the pan.” . But he was wrong, for amongst other things the 8.8. has helped me , to, see that when one undertakes a thing , the proper thing is to do it “ with all thy might,” in the words of this year’s motto. The brigade has made me want to give my life in the service of others. ancT through the excellent * medium of its classes has shown.me the most suitable methods'for thus serving my fellows. It has given me an outlet for all my high spirits, and more than that, it has turned them into • the channel through which they may do most good to other people. It has taken all /my] childish ideals and boyish ambition* and moulded them to a true Christian outlook; and moulded all ray childish heroes into the semblance of the dominating spirit of the brigade, the great Sir William. The. greatest • thing, of. that the brigade has ever taught is that the most fitting result'of. 8.8. training is to join the church, which I, through my connectioti with „tb* 8.8., and as a direct result of its training, have. just done, in company,- witl* a fellow n.c.o. 11th,DUNEDIN (SOUTH DUNEDIN PRESBYTERIANS). The company held its parade, on day evening,’when there were four ofiU* cers and-19 boys .present.. After 'inspection and devotions the captain (Mr Hislop) congratulated' the , boys\wh» had passed their. signalling exaimnation, and also the football team oui haying again won the shield, The company choir then held a practice.. Instruction classes and games following.: .During the evening the. Parents Committee held its monthly meeting.M is encouraging to haye , this - com* inittee taking a keen interest in the activities of the company. 16th DUNEDIN COMPANY (GATERSHAM PRESBYTERIANS). On Tuesday evening 32 n.c.o.s and boys, one staff sergeant, and two officers paraded. After fall in and devotions came a brisk period of drill and marching. The signalling and. ambulance classes were cut down slightly! to enable the boys to concentrate on preparation for the concert to* bo given with the Girls’ Life Brigade Company* Tumbling, gymnastics, and .physical training exercises, followed/ by- a spirited sing-song, brought the.; parad* to a dose. Several- senior boys attended the fireman’s class at the Souta Dunedin Station. THE LIFEBOYS. The annual football competition wiU now be’ played at Hancock Park, St. Hilda, to-morrow, at 1.30.

A man stated in the bankruptcy court that he tried manufacturing bath soap, but lost all his savings. Rath soap has brought many a good man down. .
