ROWING ASSOCIATION
ADDITIONS TD RULES MR F. BROUGH THE NEW PRESIDENT Preparation* for tho new season were made at the annual meeting of the Otago Rowing Association last night. 'The president (Mr T. F. Mackie) occupied the chair. If the province was to be represented at Wellington next year the incoming committee would have to give very serious consideration to the state of the eights, said the Chairman, moving the adoption of the annual report, it did not appear now that the association would share in the grants made by the National Sports Art Union Trust. The North End Club was to be commended on its initiative in sponsoring a harbour regatta, which he hoped would be adopted by other clubs. The Otago provincial crew and its coach (Mr F. Brough) were to be congratulated on the fine showing, while, despite the earlier disagreements on the holding of the race here, it was one of the best suck functions yet held. The financial position was satisfactory, for which Mr Styche was to be largely congratulated. It was very gratifying to note the amount of the bank balance, the best for some years, Mr F. Brough, seconding the motion. The high standard of oarsmanship in tho harbour was well represented by the per*
formanoe put up by the _ Otago eight in the Dominion championships, despite the fact that, the boat was in poor condition. He urged that a crew be sent to Wellington next year, even if one of the old boats had to be used. Tho work of tho University students in giving help financially was praised by Mr S. G. Styche, who enumerated the donors from whom he had collected on behalf of the association last season. The motion was carried. AMENDMENTS TO RULES. Alterations to the association’s rules were approved on the recommendations or a special sub-committee. Practically all the recommendations were made for the purpose of bringing the regulations up to date. It was decided that in connection with premiership shield points 32 points be awarded for winning eights under association rules. The following motion was adopted and added to the rules:—“That life members shall be elected at the annual meeting of the association and only from those members of whose past services the executive of the _ association desires to show appreciation. Such life members, unless delegates of affiliated clubs, shall_ not be entitled to a vote at a meeting, but shall bo entitled to all other privileges. Life members shall be proposed and seconded by two clubs and the election must be unanimous. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. - The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr F.
