FORBURY PARK TROTTING
MEETING OF COMMITTEE STAKES FIR SPRING MEETING The monthly meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held last night, Mr B. S. Irwin being in the chair. Members present were; Messrs J. M. Samson, J. Mitchell, H. Archibald, C. R. Hadfield, H. Halliday, D. O. Jolly, A. H. Todd, and J. Richardson. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter from the St. Clair School Committee requested the use of portion of Forbury Park for the purpose of training children for the school sports. The Domain Board’s grounds which had been allotted to the school were not in a safe condition for School purposes, as tho men had been engaged on erosion work. Tho children would be escorted to the ground in batches under strict supervision.—Permission granted. A grant was made to the, Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society for a special prize for pony trots at tho Summer Snow. The New Zealand Trotting Conference wrote requesting support for its official organ.—Received. A letter was received from Mr James accepting renewal of the totalisator contract for the November meeting, but giving no further guarantee until the effect of the war situation was made plain.—Tho offer was accepted. GENERAL. Mr Halliday moved that the stakes at the spring meeting be reduced from £4,000 to £3,250. An amendment bv Mr Todd that the amount bo £3.560 was carried. This had the_ effect of reducing the stakes by £SO in the case of the two principal races and £25 in that of the others. Mr Halliday gave notice of motion to rescind the amendment at the next meeting, taking the view that the reduction was not sufficient, and that the meeting would be run at a loss.
