For the'past four years Dr Cooke has been assistant research professor at the Missouri School of Mines, United States. Sir Osborn Holmdeh, K.8.E., of London, who was director of the Interallied Chartering Executive during the Great War, is visiting Christchurch, accompanied by Lady. Holmden. M. W. P. Lascelles, president-elect of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, aged 76. During the Great War he served a« Y.M.C.A. commissioner in England; France, and Egypt. He was president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand and the Missionary Society in 1919. In 1922 he was appointed secretary of th* union, with at Wellington, and held this position for 16 years’, relinquishing it to become pastor at Cambridge.—Press Association. Mr W.
