CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDED TO PETONE [Pek United Piiess Association.] WELLINGTON, September 21. The first A division championship contested by Petone and Waterside was awarded to the former on a goal average. This decision was reached by the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association with only two dissentients, and followed the play-off match last Saturday, when the result was a draw. The committee considered letters from the two clubs claiming the championship. Waterside wrote claiming the play-off on a protest, stating that the Petone team was 25 minutes late in arriving on the ground. Petono in its letter stated that the club had decided to disband if it was not classed as winning the championship. It bad played last Saturday only to avoid disappointing tbu large crowd, knowing it bad the right to the championship.
