AMATEUR ATHLETICS

OTAGO CENTRE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held last night was attended by the president (Mr C. W. Clark), Messrs B. R. M'Kernan, E. C. Isaacs, 0. K. Heaton F. Sanders, J. A. Bond, J. W. Tapp, S. I. George, R. 6. Colston, A. R. Geddes, J. S. Shepherd, W. N. Connell, C. A. Pope, L. K. Donovan, J. L. W. Gerken, T. Allen, and J. J. Barnes (bon. secretary). The Chairman extended his congratulations to F. Sanders, of the Mornington Club, in winning the Port Road race, and said that it had been one of the most popular wins in recent years. He also congratulated A. R. Geddes on securing fastest time. Mr Clark also congratulated R. A. Wilson, of the Mornington Club, on wininng the modified marathon and 6. L. Austin on putting up the fastest time. Mr Clark referred to the, Mornington Club’s performance in winning the Nickles Cup for the best aggregate in the Port and modified marathon road races. The club had put up performances this year of which it might be proud. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on October 17. It was decided to ask the New Zealand Council whether it would approve of attempts being made on New Zealand’s 10 and 20 mile records on the Caledonian Ground by G. L. Austin.
