JOTTINGS The Geraldine Meeting. The totalisator at the Geraldine meeting will be worked on the win and place system, and the first race is scheduled to start at noon each day. To Ride P. T. Hogan’s Team. J. W. Jennings has been engaged to ride P. T, Hogan’s horses during the present season, when the weights suit. Jennings can go to the scales at 7.10 when required. Dunedin Guineas Field. Only six three-year-olds have survived the final payment for the Dunedin Guineas, but the field is an even, close one, and the inclusion of two winners this season in Nigger- Boy and Prudent Prince will add interest to the contest. Now 10 Years Old. Silver Streak has been paid up for in two races at Geraldine to-morrow, but on Ashburton form He is not likely to be fancied. Now 10 years old, Silver Streak is not likely to improve, and races as if he is on the down -grade. Sister to Valmint. Lovaals, winner of the Avondale Stakes, is by the Australian sir© Vaals from Lomint, and is a full sister to Valmint. This filly is very fashionably bred, as Vaals -was a good ■winner in Australia, and her darn won a Cornwall Handicap and other good races. Why Peerless Came Home. Peerless has been sent back to the Dominion because she fell away in condition after her first two races in Sydney. She will be let up for a while but may then be prepared for the Now Zealand or Auckland Cup.

December 2.—Waikato T.C. December 9. —Roxburgh T.C. Most Seasoned. St. Cloud, "who will carry No. 1 saddle cloth at Orari to-morrow, finished second to Boloyna at Ashburton last week, and at the Christchurch Hunt fixture last July third to Nigger Boy and Lord Midas in a six furlong race. Site is a four-year-old filly by (Robespierre from Chariuilla, and looks to be the most seasoned lot in her race. Changed Order of Races. The Geraldine Racing Club has, decided on an alteration in the order of events on Thursday’s card. Tho Belfield Handicap will now be tho sixth race and the Squatters’ Handicap the eighth. Clarion Call Reappears. An interesting runner in the hack seven at Awapuni on Saturday was the Grand National Steeplechase winner, Clarion Call, who could not be produced during the winter because of leg trouble. He is now mainly under test, but earlier in his career ho was good enough on the flat to win a race at Trenthara. Pink Robe To-morrow, When Pink Robe beat Ballad in the hurdle race at the Otago Hunt meeting last month she conceded him 211 b and beat him by eight lengths. In the hurdle race at the Geraldine meeting tomorrow Pink Robe will meet him on only 51b worse terms, and should beat him again. It is worth remembering that Pink Robe won the Geraldine Cup last year. Gay Parade To-morrow. When Strip beat Gay Parade at Ashburton on Saturday the former had an allowance of 51b and Gay Parade carried 61b overweight. Gay Parade is a quick beginner, and tho turning course at Orari should give him an advantage, particularly if he draws an inside number at the harrier. With 7.2 he should be fancied in the Squatters’ Handicap. M'Lean Stakes. ■ Seven two-year-olds have been paid up for in the M'Lean Stakes, including Gold Flight, who has incurred a 101 b penalty for her win in the John Grigg Stakes. Only Doria and Noko of the field which started _in the latter race are included, and it looks as if Gold Flight and Doria will again fight out the issue. At a difference of 101 b Doria is likely to prove the better of the pair. The Dunedin Spring Meeting. Considering the aversion owners and trainers have to travelling long distances for one-day meetings, tho nominations received last evening for the Dunedin spring meeting to he held on October 7 must be considered highly satisfactory. Fifteen have been engaged in the principal handicap, and Riccarton, Washdyke, Oamaru, and. Southland stables are well represented. A Guineas Candidate. In his race at Ashburton King Gustavo, ridden by a very light apprentice, missedl tho jump out, and lost a lot of ground. At the end of six furlongs ho was close up to the leaders. He has 7.10 in the Raukapuka Handicap to-morrow, and with a strong horseman up he must be given a chance. To-morrow’s race is run over a furlong shorter distance than the Ashburton race, and this should suit King Gustavo, who is engaged in the Dunedin Guineas, Son of Dunedin Cup Winner. King’s Chorus, who is this season being trained by J, A. Rowland, is being taken along quietly, and he bears a bright appearance.' Last season he proved a rather difficult horse to train, and the beet was not seen of him, but as a four-year-old now he may prove more solid. King’s Chorus was sired by Nigger Minstrel from Queen Balboa, a fine race mare, and thus on the score of blood he has much in his favour.
Lightning Lady, Lightning Lady, one of the most improved pacers during the 1933-39 season, has had a good spell from the race track, but she has done a fair amount of work, and is apparently ready for immediate racing. W. K. Tatterson had a good season’s racing with Lightning Lady, who proved a most consistent performer. In 17 starts she won six races, was second five times, and once fourth, while in stakes she won £1,844.
Grand Mogul. Although his recent racing has lacked in its old dash, Grand Mogul is remaining sound, and he is working solidly. Whether or not he will ever come back to bis best form remains to bo seen, but his connections think his prospects of doing so are brighter now than they have been for some considerable time,, and he is in excellent order (says the ‘Press’). At the top of his form he was one of the best pacers in the Dominion, and he appeared capable of making records when he went amiss.
Fancied for Melbourne Cup Again. The Trump, winner of the Melbourne Cup two years ago, has been supported again this year for the same race, and he has firmed in the order of favouritism.
Because of two indifferent performances since his win at Flemingtou on Juno 3 it was thought that The Trump could bo discounted as a Melbourne Cup proposition this year, but the move for him suggests that he is doing well in his preparation. As well as having been supported straight-out, The Trump has been coupled in doubles with the Caulfield Cup candidates, Pure Gold and Rivette. Beau Vite in Sydney. After his win at Canterbury Park, an offer of £6,000 was made for the New Zealand colt. Beau Vite, but it was turned down and Mr Ralph Stewart will continue to race him. Since his narrow defeat by Defaulter in the Chelmsford Stakes, bo has come strongly into favour for the Australian Jockey Club’s Derby, while he is favourite also for the Melbourne Cup. Beau Vite has a great startng pedigree, apart from the fact that he is by Beau
Fere (by Son-in-Law), as bis dam, Dommant, by Martian, is a sister to Left, dam of Peter Jackson, Gaino Carrington, and Wotan, each of these a Cup winner in Australia. *
