GIRL GUIDE NOTES
[By Gcidkr.]
Tho Centennial camp has been cancalled, but headquarters is considering the possibility of holding a national service camp instead, is too early yet, tho Chief Commissioner says, to know if this idea is practical, but if it is out of the question the provinces are urged to hold as many local camps as they can.
The Chief Commissioner has written to the Government and to tho Red Cross, offering our services, and when replies to her letters have been received there will bo some indication of whether the Government intends to coordinate all wartime activities. -This would perhaps bo a good tiling and prevent overlapping. There is a long time ahead of all, and tho more training on those lines which are suitable for the present needs and which are in our badges, first aid, etc., the better. The running of good companies and the capable carrying on are now more than ever needed. This may seem dull, and all may feel the wish of doing some more spectacular service, but to stand fast to the work of Guiding, its ideals, national and'international, is in itself no small part to play in a time such as this.
The cable news recently mentioned the bombing of a Polish Guid'e camp near Warsaw, and we are proud of those Guides who did their best for their country and played their part in a desperate stand to save their capital. We are proud to wear the trefoil, and hope for the day when German Guides will be free to wear it again. There will he no Guiders’ Club meeting on Thursday night, as it is hoped to hold one when Miss Henrick is in Dunedin. She is expected shortly. Tho south district arranged a most enjoyable and successful afternoon concert last week. _ The central district is organising a jumble sale, to be held in a fortnight’s time-, and a quarterly open meeting, which is to take place on September 26. The matter of the rally which it is proposed to hold in November will he considered as soon as the Chief Commissioner arrives.
