CAN YOU BEAT IT ?
Three young men who had just joined the militia were comparing notes. “ Listen to this wire I have just received,” said the first producing a crumpled sheet from his pocket and reading out: “ ‘ Congratulations on joining up.—Hore-Belisha, Secretary for War.’l” “ What about this?” exclaimed the second, reading out in his turn: “ ‘ England is now safe.—Chamberlain. Prime Minister.’” They eyed the third man condescendingly, but he was not abashed. “'Mine's a cable,” he said. “ ‘ How much to remain neutral?—Hitler.’ ”
