SCOTTISH GIFT TO AID CROFTERS

The British Government has accepted from Lord Abinger the gift of Inverlochy Castle and other property in the neighbourhood for the purpose of establishing there a land training centre. The Department of Agriculture for Scotland proposes to establish at Inverlochy Castle a land training centre for the sons of crofters who are prepared to make crofting their livelihood. About 40 students will be received annually for instruction at the castle, and the course will probably occupy from 10 to 12 months. It is proposed to accept students from 16 to 18 years of age. Efforts will he made to induce local authorities in the Highlands and Islands to share in the scheme by granting bursaries to suitable youths.
