EAST TAIERI PRESBYTERIANS

THE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the East Taieri congregation was held last night. Rev. Stanley C. Read presided over * good attendance. The reading of the several reports was interspersed with choruses and songs by the choir and friends. Rev. Professor Hunter gave an inspiring and instructive address on the need of all Christians to use their every endeavour to uphold God’s kingdom in the world, especially during the present crisis. He reminded his readers of Constantine, the Roman Governor’s, battle cry: “By the Cross of Christ he. would conquer.” The fight to-day was in the cause of Christ against the forces of Satan. He concluded his address by an earnest prayer that God’s blessing would fall on the congregation and tlie minister. Mr B. Watt, in the absence of Mr W. Morton (church treasurer) ; r gave details of the principal items in the balance sheet. He read a commentary on the year’s work by Mr Morton, which showed that a loss of £l9 13s 6<i had been recorded. The main item of non-recurring expenditure was £2B 7* for the supply of new choir and visitors hymn books. The joint organ and centenary fund appeal resulted in promises of £1,500, of which £637 had been col. lected. It would appear that th« finances of the church would requir# some attention during the coming year. —The report was adopted. The reports were submitted as follows- Deacons’ Court, Session, P.W.M.U.. Busy Bees, Junior Bibid Class, Girls’ Auxiliary. Choir. Sunday School, and the Senior Young Women's Bible Class. —All the reports were adopted. , .
