Investment Market To-day

LITTLE CHANGE I AUSTRALIAN METALS INACTIVE NO BUYERS AND SELLERS HESITANT MARKET FOR A.G.I. RIGHTS WIDENS There was little variation in stock prices this morning, but support for most sectior.s was present at a price. Australian metals again proved an exception, not a single buyer coming on, while values continued to reflect uncertainty. Leading Commonwealth industrials held late rates, while most Dominion lines were quietly steady. Business was restricted. Among mining issues, both Lyells and Souths came on offer at £1 12s, while Norths were available at £1 above that valuation. Zinc ords. eased to a vendor at £2 18s 9d, while Morgans were hesitant. Broken Hill Proprietaries and A.C.I. rights were the only Australian industrials to have both buyers and sellers on. The former shares were unchanged, but the rights opened wide between 4s 3d-4s lOd. Coles and Sydney Woolworths were again restricted to a sellers’ market. Banks were neglected by purchasers, but insurances found a firm inquiry, with Standards closing at buyers £2 14s. Meat preservings finished stable, while selected industrials were accorded support at defined limits. SALES REPORTED. —Late Yesterday.— New Zealand Refrigerating (cont.), 8s Id. D.I.C. (pref.), £1 Is 9d. —This Morning.— New Zealand Drug, £3 7s 9d. SALE ON ’CHANGE. —This Morning.— 4 per cent. Stock, 1943-46, £9B.

FRUIT AND PRODUCE SMALLER CONSIGNMENTS ARRIVING ORANGES NOW MORE PLENTIFUL Reilly’s report that smaller supplies of fruit and vegetables have been arriving, and business has been quiet in the markets. Good quality dessert apples have a demand, coloured fruit iu particular being wanted. Values show a satisfactory advance for all lines of good quality. Cooking apples have an excellent inquiry, and dessert pears are also selling well. During the week very heavy supplies of cut flowers have been received from the north. Now that local supplies have increased values have dropped considerably. A small parcel of oranges came to hand during the week, and further supplies should be distributed next week. There will be an excellent demand for this fruit, which will consist of navels. Australian grapefruit are also expected. Small consignments of passion fruit are meeting with a good inquiry. Small consignments of hothouse cucumbers are bringing satisfactory values. A further consignment of New Zealand lemons came to hand during the week, and sales are steady. Ripe bananas are in short supply. A shipment of Nines and Samoans due towards the end of the month should have a good inquiry. Fair supplies of vegetables are available. Cabbages are selling at lower values, but cauliflowers are slightly firmer in price. Some nice quality hothouse lettuce are arriving, and meeting with a good inquiry. Other vegetables are in good supply. Increased consignments of rhubarb are arriving, and values are lower. Table potatoes have only a limited inquiry, ample supplies being available. _ Seed potatoes are in short supply, with an excellent inquiry. Owing to the conditions supplies of whitebait are limited, and values remain firm. Eggs.—With the good demand experienced for preserving purposes, values firmed one penny during the week, guaranteed now selling at Is sd.
