Correct Weights. In the Champion Plate at Avondale to-morrow Veritable, Val Lu, Native Song, and Hagen all have 8.9, not 8.0 as published in the telegraphed list on Saturday. Riders Changed. C. G. Goulsbro will ride Hagen in the Champion Plate at Avondale, as P. Atkins is required for Silver Stick. Atkins is also due to ride Silver Stick in the Guineas, but arrangements will probably be made to let him retain the mount on Beaulivre. To be Raced Over Hurdles. Milford has been given some schooling lessons at Invercargill, and his future racing may bo done over hurdles. It is reported that the Anomaly gelding recently changed hands. Sister to Indianapolis. Imperial Jade, who is engaged in the Selma Trot at Ashburton to-mor-row, is a three-year-old sister to Indianapolis, and is trained by M. Holmes. She finished fourth in the Sapling Stakes last season. Rider for Colonel French, If T. J. Boyle, who was recently discharged from hospital after sustaining injuries at the Grand National meeting, is not fit to ride Colonel French in the hurdle race at Ashburton tomorrow, the mount will bo taken by R. J. Mackie. Racing Career Ended. Black Banner has been returned to Southland from Washdyke, and although ho has recovered a good deal from the injury ho sustained at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s Meeting, there is little chance of the Balboa gelding racing again. To Ride in Melbourne. The well-known Auckland jockey, R. W. M'Tavish. intends leaving for Melbourne shortly. Overtures were made to M'Tavisli on his recent holiday there, and with sonic good mounts offering he has decided, for the time being, to follow his calling in Australia. M'Tavish can ride about 7.12. Divided Race. As there were 26 acceptors in the Novice Stakes to he run at Ashburton to-morrow, and the safety number that can start from the six furlong barrier on this course is 19, the race will probably be run in divisions. It had to be run in divisions last year when the winners wore Miss Bluff and Gay Parade. The latter is engaged in the Spring Handicap to-morrow. A Good Schooling Bout. Main interest in the proceedings at Riccarton on Wednesday was provided by four hurdlers, in a school over six hurdles. Bit o’ Blue (J. Sullivan) soon drew clear of Comus (E. J. Jennings), Courtyard (H. W. Hibberd), and Full Back (L, Robinson). They ran like this till nearing the fifth flight, where there was not much between the four. Bit o’ Blue hit the obstacle, losing his rider, and causing Full Back to lose a little ground. The riderless horse went on. finishing alongside Courtyard and Comus, with Full Back, two lengths away. But for the mishap to Bit o’ Blue, all jumped well, and it was an excellent piece of work. Interdominion Championships to Be Held. Despite unsettled world conditions, the interdomiuion trotting championships will be held at Perth next February. Advice to this effect was received from Mr J. P- Stratton, president of the West Australian Trotting Association by Mr W. H. Larcombe, secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Association, on Wednesday. It is not known yet how many New Zealand horses will make the trip, but it is hoped that some of the better-performed horses will go. Cheaper Acceptance Foes. At the annual meeting of members of the Gore Trotting Club on Wednesday evening Mr G. W. Whittinghara, in moving a recommendation to' the incoming committee that acceptance fees bo reduced to £l, said that if the club wanted to help owners it had the chance to do it. The club had £5,000 in hand, and he considered that the owners should be given more consideration. Only eight owners could win at the club’s meeting, and ho thought that if the club reduced its fee for acceptances its action would be appreciated. The Gore Racing Club had charged £1 for acceptances for a number of years and had not lost anything by it.

Highland Scott Amiss. Highland Scott has injured his near knee again, and will not contest the Wellington Stakes at_ Hutt Park on Saturday week. This is unfortunate for his owner, Mr J. R. M'Kenzie, as Highland Scott had made good progress and looked to have a fairly easy task ahead. Last season Highland Scott injured his knee after showing brilliant form, and did not start in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. Apparently ho has now developed the habit of knocking himself. No decision has yet been made as to whether he will bo eased up temporarily or given a good spell.

Worth Following. Paper Note, who promises to he one of the fancied division in the Spring Handicap at Ashburton to-morrow, is a seven-year-old gelding by Paper Money from Troika 11., a mare by Orange Jersey. Ho only started twice last season, and was unplaced on both occasions. The previous season, out of 13 starts, he won twice, was second three times, and third in three other races. At the Grand National meeting Paper Note, carrying 8.0, beat a high-class field in the open six furlong race on the opening day, and this return to form should give him a good chance in to-morrow’s race. Ho finished \ oi'.v strongly to beat Skyrena 8.0 and Tooley .Street 8.9, and the extra furlong should not be beyond him. Taking a line through Tooley Street, who with 5.13 won the Selwyn Handicap on the concluding day. Paper Note shpuid be worth following to-morrow,*

Change of Jockeys. Jockeys wore changed on four horses at Wanganui on Saturday, and all four won—Malik Kafur, Sungleam, Sly Fox, and Blonde Princess. _ The Racing Conference will not consider passing a rule to prohibit a change of horseman during the course of a meeting, without permission, as is done in trotting, but punters would vote overwhelmingly in favour of it. Government’s Action Approved. In contrast to the attitude adopted at other recent annual meetings of racing club members in the Dominion, no criticism was voiced at tho annual general meeting of members of the Wellington Racing Club concerning tho action of the Government in not continuing the rebate of 1 per cent, on totalisator tax for the current season. Mr AV. L. Rothenberg, a member of the club, stated it as his opinion that tho Government was justified in its action, declaring that racing clubs were only collecting agents of a taxation that did not affect the members of the clubs in any personal way.

Riding Engagements for Avondale. Riding engagements announced for the Avondale meeting, which commences to-morrow and will conclude on Monday, include: — T. Green—Bronwen, Miss Valerie. Buccaneer, Kentucky, Jack Tar, Sac l cone; A. G. Parsons, Gay Movie, Princess Val; R. M‘Tavish—Lovaals, Orelio, Tupeotu; H. Wiggins—Gamos, Queen City, Birthday Boy, Milanion; _W. Thomson —Noisy Night, Inver. Silver Glow; J. Forsyth—Valimeen, Glen Connell, Merrymeer, Philcourt, Hunter’s Rose (second day); R. Ferguson, Mia Acrea; H. Long, Veritable; O. Evans, Marie’s Acre; O. G. Goulsbro, Hagen, Vaalstar; J. Kiugi, Bachelor King; G. Smith, Full Hand, Proud Fox; F. Beguely, Brazilian, Pleuron; G. Cameron—Francis Drake, Royal Fawkes, Brazen Bold, Foxmond; A. C. Messervy —Jayola, Nyola, Marheko; G. Gemtnell, Maori Star, Loyal Grant; J, F. Fergus, Royal Dance, Spinning Wheel; .1. Hearn, Beverley, Palmint; H. Turner, Bisquit; S. Tremain, Royal Message, Golden Bonnet; N. Vaughan— Docility, Dutch Girl, Every Port; A. G. Murray—Dick Turpin, Stratford, Orate; D. Craddock, Sebrof, Tea Chat; G. Gilchrist, Happicoat; P. Atkins, Silver Stick, Pern; T. Williams, Mclvanui. Change of Date Applied For. The Timaru Trotting Club proposes to apply for a change of date for its summer meeting from January 12 to December 16. A Handsome Donation. Mr H. H. Green, a steward of the Wellington Racing Club, has presented a gold cup worth £2OO to supplement the stake of £3,000 for the next Wellington Cup. A Good Suggestion. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Racing Club Mr W. A. Fordham brought up the question of having braziers on the lawn and enclosures on cold days, as in France. This muchappreciated idea has been in operation at the Oamaru winter meeting for the past two years. The cost is only a small one, and would he equally welcome at Trentham at the July meetings.

Vintage Year for Three-year-olds. So far this season three-year-olds have been racing attractively, and there is every prospect that it will be a vintage year for horses of that ago (says a northern writer). Of 20 candidates remaining in the Champion Plate, to be run to-morrow at the Avondale meeting, 12 are three-year-olds, and they appear to hold a mortgage on the event. The list includes Silver Stick, Our Jean, Brazen Bold, Orelio. Classic, Wyndora, Surmise, Foxtoon, Clipper, Duncannon, Classform, and Buccaneer—a formidable lot. Defaulter. Tho announcement that Defaulter’s trainer will make his decision this weekend whether he will return to the Dominion with his horse indicates that the trouble is more deep-seated than was at first anticipated. _ A let-up just now, about six weeks prior to the running of the Melbourne Cup, will not help Defaulter’s chance in that race, and those who rushed in early to make him first favourite for that race will stand to lose a lot of money. Dependent on Racing. At the annual general meeting of members of tho Wellington Racing Club the president, Mr E. L. Riddiford, said: “ There are to-day many thousands of people dependent on racing for fcheir livelihood. The 95 racing clubs in New Zealand employ clerical staffs, permanent racecourse staffs, and large casual race-day staffs. In addition to these, there are about 700 licensees and 2,500 stable hands. Most of these people natural! v have dependents, and it is not difficult to see how far-reaching would be the effect of too hasty action by dubs in varying from the normal routine. This club, and I am sure all other clubs, will do their utmost to carry on.”
