FIJIAN FOOTBALLERS
MR H. H. S. WHITE'S IMPRESSIONS
[By Hooker.]
During his visit to Auckland Mr H, H. S. White, a former president of the j Otago Rugby Union, had the pleasure of meeting Mr Jack B. K. Taylor, comanager of the Fiji Rugby team, who is now a resident of Suva. _ Mr Taylor represented Auckland in
1922, when the northern province played Otago ate Dunedin and suffered defeat. During the game Mr Taylor met with an accident requiring the attendance of a doctor. He stated that he would never forget the kindness and attention given him by the members of the Otago Rugby Football Union. It was very pleasing to Mr White to meet Mr Taylor after 17 years. He was also introduced to members of the Fiji team, who are a very unassuming combination of players. He had the pleasure of hearing their musical voices. Mr White witnessed the game with Auckland, and it was worth going » long way to see. The Fiji players showed how football should be played. On being tackled they immediately parted with the ball, and thus prevented unnecessary scrums, making the game very fast. If an opponent fell with the ball there was no indiscriminate kicking. The Fijians were highly delighted with their victory, and, as Mr Taylor stated, it will give the game-a greaterboost in the islands. Mr Taylor asked Mr White to convey his best wishes to the Otago Rugby Football Union.
