Broad Bay. i Mrs A. M'Taggart presided at tin; [ monthly meeting of the Kroad Bay I Institute, held on Tuesday. The motto t was. " The best lessons we can learn are from our own mistakes." and the roll-call " Something learnt at school.'' Mrs Arnott gave an interesting demonstration of solaqua pencil painting. The competitions resulted : Handkerchief with a cotton crocheted edge—Mrs Cranelield 1, Mrs Rernman 2; nikelets—Miss Harris 1, Mrs Arnott and Mrs A. M'Taggart (equal) 2. The hostesses were Mrs Wilson and Mrs Anderson. Macandrew Bay. The Macandrew Bay Women's Institute held its monthly,meeting last Thursday. The president (Mrs Viekers* presided. The motto was, " How many a thing -which we ca«t to the ground when others pick up becomes a gem." and the roll-call, " The most welconm sound I know." A member, Mrs Dickinson, gave a demonstration on the making of moccasins, which was very interesting. Competitions resulted ■ Three varieties of sweets—Mrs Stapletnn 1, Mrs Butler 2; best bloom—Mm Hinkley 1. Mrs Lang 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Tyrie, Webber, Clifford, and Jarvis. the Misses Churchill and It. and D. Miller^ Tomahawk Branch. The Tomahawk. Women's Institutn held its September meeting on Thursday evening Jast in the Gleucairn Hall The president (Mrs R. B. Mathieson> welcomed members and visitors present. The motto was, "He who never maikefi a mistake, never makes anything." ' The Golden Thread,' third verse of creed, was carried on by Mrs
Small]. The roll-call was “My favourite cake.” An interesting anil instructive demonstration on the icing ol cakes was given by Miss Alexander. Airs W. Small 1 was elected delegate to attend the half-yearly council meeting to be held at Lawrence. The competitions resulted: Best iced butter sponge—Airs Mathicson 1, Airs Mathias 2; best arranged, vase of flowers —Mrs Bimon I, Mrs Biggs 2, Airs Alathias 3. An amusing entertainment, * A Alock Wedding,’ by members of the Drama Circle, provided much enjoyment for the onlookers. Those taking part were Alesdames Riach. Smith, Taber, Saunders, Dickson, Simon, and Al'Donald. An enjoyable supper in the form of a wedding breakfast was provided by members.
