RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS
SUSPENDED DURING WAR N.Z.'S PAIR EH ROUTE TO ENGLAND [Pee United Peess Association.] WELLINGTON, September 12. When war broke out the authorities at Oxford University cabled New Zealand to the effect that the Rhodes Scholarships were suspended, but when they heard that New Zealand’s pair, Messrs Berendsen and Weston—were already on their way Home, a further cable was sent leaving it to the scholars or their parents’ discretion whether they proceeded or returned to New Zealand. If the decision is made to complete the voyage, the authorities at Oxford will look after the scholars. In the meantime communication is being established with the two scholars as far as circumstances will allow, but as yet it is not known definitely whether they will be returning or not. There is similar uncertainty aoout the holders of other scholarships at Cambridge wlio recently left for England, ,
