DESERTERS FROM GERMAN SHIP
TWO BEFORE THE COURT [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 12. Rudolph Schrnuesser (18) appeared on remand in the Police Court charged with deserting from the German ship Dortmund. He had been working in a mine at Glen Aftou, and was arrested when he registered in Auckland as an alien. Yesterday another German, Paul Bfeur (19), a seaman, was arrested on a similar charge. He had also been working at Glen Afton. They appeared together on the desertion charge and also on a further charge of landing in New Zealand without permits. Schrnuesser said he had consulted a solicitor and asked for a remand until counsel was available. The magistrate (Mr Levien) said that nothing had yet been decided concerning Germans residing in New Zealand. The police suggested a remand until Tuesday, and in granting the remand the Magistrate said there would be no further remands. Each was liable to 12 months’ imprisonment on one of the charges.
