“WHITE GOD"
REPORT FROM JUNGLE IS IT A MISSING AIRMAN 7 Another “ white god of the jungle ” legend has arisen from a report that the missing Colombian airman, Captain Ernesto Esguerra, is still alive and worshipped as a god by an Amazon tribe. Similar stories have had world-wide circulation concerning the missing British explorer, Colonel Fawcett, and the lost American airman, Paul Red--I'ein. Esguerra, according to a British United Press message from Bogota, Colombia, vanished m June, 1933, somewhere in the jungle which completely covers the upper reaches of the Amazon. Now Father Londouo, an army chaplain, has presented the Colombian Ministry of the Interior with a sketch of the country in which the plane is said to have crashed. Indian tribesmen told Father Londono that the pilot had lost both legs, and that the mechanic had been killed. Father Londono says that the Indians in the district “ worship the white god who fell from the skies.” Esguerra’s mother hopes that the report will prove true, but Government officials are certain Esguerra was killed.
