KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION The knock-out competition of the Otago Hockey Association was continued on Saturday at Logan Park, when University A defeated University B by 13 goals to 1, and Albany beat Training College by 7 goats to O. University A and Albany are now leading, and will meet in the final of the competition on September 23. INVERCARGILL TEAM BEATEN A team representing Central Club (Invercargill) visited Dunedin to play the annual match with a High School Old Boys team for the Dawson Cup. The match, which was played on the Oval No. 1, was won by Old Boys by 2 goals to 1. The match was fast and well contested, both forward lines combining well, and the excellent condition of the ground allowed the pace to bo maintained throughout. The first spell was well advanced when Central opened the scoring, Mullen sending in a fast shot, and the ball glancing into the net off Hercns’s pads. Just before half-time, Old Boys equalised, Edginton following in smart to score off the rebound from the goalie’s pads. The second spell was no less even, and about halway through, Old Boys fained a penalty corner from which idginton secured to send in a fast shot which gave the goalie little chance. Central’s centre-half, Semmens, was probably the most useful member of his side, while Edginton and Hercus were outstanding among Old Boys. The game ended: Old Boys . ... 2 / Central 1 Messrs D. Paterson and D. Purvis were umpires. The visitors were entertained to dinner in the evening and returned to Invercargill yesterday. Mr A. Batting has presented a cup for competition between the clubs’ junior teams, but there was no match this year. The cup will, therefore, be held by the High School Old Boys colts for the ensuing year. WOMEN'S GAMES KINGS WINS COMPETITION The centre of interest in the women’s hockey was the final of the competition, Kings and Otago being the finalists. The game was an interesting one, but the standard of play was not all that could have been desired. _ Kings won decisively by 4 goals to nil. Momona did well to hold University to a fairly even game, although the victory went to the latter team by 3 goals to 2. Training College had little difficulty with Brighton, and won by G goals to 0. KINGS v. OTAGO. In the first half Otago had a definite territorial advantage, and were playing with good combination, but their movements lacked the added dash which would have penetrated the Kings defence. Otago kept up a steady attack, but occasionally a Kings player would break away and, as the team was ready to support, two surprise goals were scored in the first half, E. Sonntag and A. Harley shooting the goals, _ Encouraged by their successes, Kings settled down and showed better form in the second half, but were unable to break through. Later in the spell the game was very even, and was marked by willing play on both sides. In the last few minutes, however, Kings demonstrated that it still had something in reserve, and added two more goals in rapid succession. These came from beautiful shots by R. Cumberbeach and E. Sonntag. The final score was:— Kings 4 Otago 0 Messrs D. Miller and R. S. Wallace refereed the game. TRAINING COLLEGE v. BRIGHTON. The first half in the match between Training College and Brighton was the more interesting section of the game, College scoring only two of its six goals in this spell, while Brighton was making a game showing. L. Cameron and Collins were both successful. In the second half the run of play was much more one-sided, and College added four goals, J. Flett, B. Turner, P. Walker, and L. Cameron scoring. The Brighton goalie put up a sound defence, and J. Flett’s stick work was also pleasing. The score was: Training College 6 Brighton 0 Mr A. Sew Hoy was the referee. UNIVERSITY A v. MOMONA. There was very little to choose between University and Momona, and the game was an interesting and well-con-tested one throughout. At the end of the first spell University had scored the only goal, but in the seroml half each side scored two goals, the final result being: University 3 Momona 2
