PERSONAL

The mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) left by train this morning on his way to Wellington. Mr H. L. Paterson left this morning for Wellington to attend the annual meeting of the Institute of Surveyors, of which he has been elected Dominion president. Miss May Leslie left this morning for Cuba, where she will take up missionary work. She was farewelled on the railway station by a large gathering.

Messrs W. Hodgson and J. and N« Paterson left by the express to-day. for Wigram to continue R.A.F. training.

Mr James Bqgg returned on Satur-. day from Wellington. Mr W. A. Anderson has been appointed a member of the special board to determine when the Kawarau Dam gates shall be opened or closed, in place of Mr W. H. Overton, representing the Queenstown Borough Council. Included in a number or promotions announced by the Railway Department is the appointment of Mr W. Cooper, statioumaster at Oamaru, to chief traffic auditor, South Island. Mr W, A. Baker, of the Dunedin staff, becomes parcels clerk, Dunedin. Mr CW. S. White, at present acting assistant stationmaster, Dunedin, goes to Oamaru as chief clerk. Mr C. D. M'Kenzie, in charge of the Picton section, has been appointed stationmaster at Oamaru. Mr E. A. Newman, stationmaster at Invercargillj is promoted to the Dunedin Station in a similar position.
