RED CROSS ACTIVE

HOT TEA FOR GUARDS AT VITAL’ POINTS PUBLIC WORKS MEN'S APPRECIATION Good work has been done by th# local Red Cross in providing morninsE and afternoon tea for those member* of the military forces who are guard* iug vital points about the city. Many of the days since this duty wa«. brought into operation have been very cold, as the guards know only too well. The appearance of (Red Cross workers at 10.30. 3.30. and in several instances at 7.30 in the evening has been very much welcomed. At one of, the points men have been engaged by the Public Works Department erecting a cook house. Thesa men were treated the same as th« guards and were given hot tea. Their appreciation took a very tangible form when, due to the completion of , the cook house, the Red Cross announced; that it would no longer visit, that point. The Public Works men then made a collection, the proceeds being handed to the Red Cross in a .box. This gesture is very highly appreciated by the society, which did not expect any such reaction. The money has not yet been counted, but it will be officially acknowledged as soon as possible. The society will continue to pay attention to the needs of guards in other parts of the city, and is extendin'' ite operations to include the officers and staff at Kensington Drill Rail.
