SHOCKING CYCLE TRAGEDY
CRASH INTO STATIONARY MOTOR TRUCK TWO YOUNG MEN KILLED AUCKLAND, September 10. A motor cyclist and his pillion passenger were killed instantly when their machine collided violently with the back of a stationary motor truck on the Great North road near Waikumete Cemetery about 10.15 o’cock to-night. Tho victims were;— ■ PETER WILLIAM SCOTT, aged 20, West Coast road, Glenedon, driver of tire motor cycle. PHILLIP HENRY DOUBLE, aged 21, of 27 Taylor street, Avondale. After delivering a supply of milk in the evening, Mr Frank Arthur Woodbridge, farmer, of Wharepapa, was driving his motor truck home with Mrs Woodbridge and tho two children when the petrol supply ran out. It was then that the collision occurred. The impact was heard half a mile away. Running to the back of the truck, Mr Woodbridge was horrified to find two young men lying apparently dead at the side of the road. A passing motorist went to the nearest house to telephone tho police, a doctor, and the St. John Ambulance. When a doctor arrived both men were dead. The front wheel and forks of the motor cycle were jammed against the rear axle of tho truck and were badly twisted.
