WEATHER FORECAST

The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— An intense westerly depression is crossing the Dominion. Pressure has risen somewhat over south-eastern Australia. Forecast: Strong north-west to westerly winds to gales, backing later to south-westerly. Weather squally and unsettled, with rain and soma heavy falls. Thunder and hail probable *in places. Becoming cooler tomorrow. OVERCAST. After intermittent showers had fallen daring yesterday, when the rainfall amounted to .31in, last evening was fine and mild. Light showers commenced falling early this morning, but quickly ceased. An overcast sky was apparent all morning, and rain appeared imminent. There was a light northerly breeze in evidence. Indications at noon were for unsettled conditions this afternoon. Temperatures have advanced slightly on the readings for the same period yesterday, the respective maxima being 54.2 and 53deg, with 52 and 49.2 deg the corresponding minima. Over a twenty-four hour period the thermometer registered a maximum of 64deg and a minimum of 47deg yesterday. An unsteady pressure of 29.35 in was indicated at noon to-day; yesterday the reading was three points higher.
