INVALIDITY PENSIONS
doubtful point cleared up MINISTER MAKES POSITION PLAIN [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 9. In referring to the invalidity pensions legislation, the Hon. W. E, Parry said that under a section of the Act any pension granted on an application received within one month after the coining into operation of the Act (September 4 to October 4) shall commence from July 1. Doubt had been expressed by some applicants who registered within the month, but whose cases had not been finally decided before the period mentioned expired, as to whether if pensions were now granted they would receive payment for the month stipulated.
Mr Parry said that as long as an application was in between September 4 and October 4 the pension, if granted, would date back to July 1. As October 4 was a Sunday, no doubt applications received on the following day would be treated as coming within the period of a month allowed for the July payment. There would be no delay in dealing with any case.
