YACHTS AND MOTOR BOATS
OTAGO CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING
The adjourned annual meeting ol the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Club was held in the Harrop Street Hall last evening. The commodore (Mr A. W. Hazelwood) presided over a good attendance of members and 1 Heads.
In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the Chairman said that, although tho sailing boat racing had been up to standard during the season, tho motor boat entries had not been so good. Apparently motor boats were now considered, only for use as pleasure craft. The balance sheet was not so satisfactory when compared with other years. However, there had been such largo items as repairs, and affiliation fees had been paid for two years. Future prospects were very bright, and a good season could be looked forward to. Mr R. Cahill, in seconding the motion, said that a better year in motor boating could bo expected. Last season the races had been held very early, and this season there was a larger fleet of motor boats. Mr G. Geddes said that, although he did not wish to disrupt the _ meeting, pertain points called for criticism and an explanation. He considered that the club was the worst-equipped in the harbour, and thought that it would take half as much money again as the chib had in hand to effect all the necessary repairs. The speaker explained why the Social Committee had resigned last season, and criticised the action of one flag officer in moving a resolution that no social committee be elected without the consent of'the Executive Committee. He also introduced the matter of another flag officer ordering the secretary to reiuso payment of a cheque for the payment of an account of the Social Committee. Tho speaker held that the Social Committee had not been a failure as had been alleged in some quarters, as itsefforts had benefited the club to the extent of some £l7.
Mr L. J. Paul gave an explanation of the incident of the cheque, and Mr Cahill read a specially-compiled summary of the doings of the Social Committee, which showed that its receipts had been £122 16s 4d and its expenditure £135 6s.
Mr J. T. Paul said that, although the club appreciated the work of the Social Committee, its activities had not proved financially successful. Although criticism was desired, it should be of a constructive nature, and he hoped that, all members would pull together for the, good of the club. After further discussion , the report and balance sheet was adopted. Daring the evening the mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) presented prizes won during the past, season. He wished the club good luck in the future, and hoped that any small difficulties it was experiencing would disappear, GENERAL. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr J. M‘G. Wilkie, who had contributed £1 Is, while Mr J. Lupp -also offered £1 Is towards repairs. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. , The election of officers for the season resulted: Commodore, Mr R.
