INVITATION TO RTGRATH DOMINION AND DAVIS CUP [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 7. It was decided at the meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association tonight to send an invitation to V. B. AUGrath to compete in the New Zealand championship tournament. AUGrath is the present holder of the men’s singles title. He is also to be asked whether lie knows of any other leading Australian player who would make the trip. The secretary (Mr H. N. Burns) was asked to draft a report on the question of New Zealand entering a team for the Davis Cup. The report is to be considered at the next quarterly meeting of the council. PROGRAMME FOR CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING The Secondary Schools’ Athletic Association has drawn up, for confirmation by the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the programme for the Otago secondary schools’ athletic championships on November 7 at the Caledonian Ground, as follows: 10 a.m.—Shot putt (121 b), senior; 220yds junior heals. 10.15: Broad jump, senior; 220yds senior heats. 10.20: 220yds intermediate heats. 10.30: Broad jump, intermediate. 10.40: 440yds junior heats. 10.50; 440yds intermediate heats. 11; 440yds senior heats. 11.5: High jump, intermediate. 2 p.m.: High jump, junior; 100yds senior heats. 2.5: 100yds intermediate heats. 2.10: 100yds junior heats. 2.15: 880yds, senior. 2.25; 100yds senior final. 2.30; 100yds intermediate final. 2.35: 100yds junior final. 2.40: 880yds intermediate. 2.45: High jump, senior. 2.50: Javelin throw, senior. 2.55: Broad jump, junior. 3.5: 220yds senior final. 3.10; 220yds intermediate final. 3.13: 220yds junior final. 3.20: One mile, senior. 3.30; 120yds hurdles, senior heats. 3.35: 120yds hurdles, intermediate heats. 3.45: 440yds senior final. 3.50: 440yds intermediate final. 3.55: 410yds junior final. 4: 120yds hurdles senior final. 4.5: 120yds hurdles intermediate final. 4.15: 410yds junior relay. 4.20: 880yds intermediate relay. 4.25: One mile senior relav.

The age limits are:—Senior, under 19 on November 1; intermediate, under l(3]r on November 1; junior, under 15 on November 1 Entries close with the secretary (Air G. D. Anderson) at the Technical College on Wednesday, October 28, at noon.

Each school is limited to two entries in each event. The school gaining most points in each section will be awarded the championship shield, to he held for one year, the points counting as follow:—First, 5 points; second, 3 points; third, 1 point. All competing schools must affiliate with the Otago and Southland Secondary Schools’ Athletic Association.

Senior and intermediate competitors may enter for any four events. Juniors may enter for any three individual events and/or the relay. The Central Executive has suggested that, to cement further the co-operation between members of the association and, the Otago Centre, for each event a member of the association’s committee should act as a judge iu conjunction with those appointed by the centre controlling the fixture. Owing to pressure of work, Mr A. G. Fleming, who for the last three years has done so much valuable work as secretary to the association, has been compelled to resign his position. AVhile, however, not taking any further official part in the meetings of the association, Air Fleming lias readily volunteered to give any assistance it may require. Mr G. D. Anderson, of the Dunedin Technical High School, was appointed as his successor. An old hoy of Southland Boys’ High School. Air Anderson was a very good athlete while at school, and he should make a thorough success of his now position.
