FINISH OF GUP SCORES By scoring a stylish first and fastest time double last Saturday, E. Boyd takes the Short Race Cup. This cup was given to the rider scoring the greatest number of points in a series of six races. Boyd was very consistent in his performances, and his was a popular win. With a season on the track he should develop into a firstclass road rider. The finish of this race was one of the best seen this season, the three placed men being within a fifth of a second of one another. P. Garden, who was Boyd’s co-marker, finished second and also took second place in the cup points. Of the rest of the field. 1). Ralston showed that ho could go with the faster men and was beaten onlv on the post.

Although he was unplaced in the final race, Jim M'Connell took third place in the cup points. The Dunedin Club is to bo congratulated on its initiative in providing these short races for new ami young riders. They have been a success, and have helped to unearth young talent which will be an acquisition to tho club in big events next road season. In earlier years these young riders were lost to the club and cycling gene-

rally through their not wishing to rido in the long road races in their first season.

Four of the club’s riders made the trip to Invercargill last Saturday to compete in the Southland 56-mile road championship, hut were not very successful.

A. Tato put up the best performance by taking fourth place, and was extremely unlucky in not being further up, 'as _ ho developed mechanical trouble nine miles from home when in a commanding position at the head of the field.

Of the others, J. M'lvor retired, while Paterson and Bullock wore not riding up to their usual form. In. view of his good performance in the Otago 50-mile championship, Bullock was expected to do well, but is evidently going stale. He had the honour of riding off the scratch marie with Paterson and Robinson.

Riders are reminded that tho Mollor Cnp race is open to all riders, and is not restricted to just the long-race competitors, Tho presentation of trophies won during the year will bo held at a social gathering in the Forbury School Hall on Saturday nmht The final points for tho Short Race Cup were as follow;—E.
