POLICE COURT
THURSDAY, OCTOBER S. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) PROBATION FOR YOUTH. A 17-year-old youth appeared for sentence on two charges of theft, at Christchurch and Dunedin, from his employers. Chief-detective Young said he had had inquiries made in Christchurch. The reports were that accused enjoyed an unblemished record prior to these lapses. Taking into consideration accused’s previous good record, the magistrate admitted him to probation for a period of one year. Publication of the name was prohibited. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. The hearing of the negligent driving charge against Myrtle Francis Smyth (Mr F. M. Hanan) was concluded. It was stated by the police that the defendant, while driving in the Octagon. had knocked down a pedestrian. After hearing evidence the magistrate convicted the defendant and imposed a fine of £7 10s and costs, and ordered the conviction to be endorsed on the defendant’s license.
