Eowler, 14s 3d. MINING HOUSE CONCESSIONS LTD. The secretary submits the following report of progress during September:— The monthly wash-up (No., 2) produced 13oz 13dwt of gold, valued at £96. The mine expenditure, including mine manager’s salary, amounted to about £45. MAEREWHENUA GOLDFIELDS. The secretary of Maerewhenua Goldfields Development Co. Ltd. reports the following progress for September:— The , work on the mine was mostly concentrated on the Golden Gully development. The progress of the tailings through the tunnel was very satisfactory indeed, and it is estimated that 100 cubic yards per hour passed through the tunnel. All this material goes over gold-saving boxes and any values contained therein are saved 1 . Sluicing at Duffers’ Gully is now being terminated, and work has begun on cleaning up the gutter and the long tail race in that gully. A partial washup of the boxes has produced about 6oz of gold, valued at £43 10s, but the main quantity, which is lodged in the gutter, is still to be washed up. The mine expenditure for the month amounted to about £B6. The extension money, £124, for the month of October, in connection with the option to London, has been received. SALES ON ’CHANGE; THIS DAY. Our Auckland correspondent wires;— A steady turnover has continued over the past 24 hours, witlx values firm for a number of Australian and mining issues which have attracted most attention. Broken Hills improved a fraction to a sale at £3 17s sd, with the subsequent market between £3 16s 9d and £3 17s 6d. An offer of £43 for Colonial Sugars failed to attract a seller. Australian Glass sold 6d higher at £4 12s 9d, and there were further buyers offering £4 12s 68, with sellers at J&l 13s. Woolworths (Sydney) had a sale 2s up at £5 8s 6d, after which they were offered at £5 9s 6d, with buyers still at £5 Bs. Coles were a shade easier between 75s 6d and 76s 9d. In the mining section Marthas sold higher at 20s 2d, with a late market of 20s to 20s 3d. Waihis were in demand at 10s 9d, and Junctions at 3s Od. In the banking section New Zealands improved, with buyers at 38s 9d and sellers at 39s 3d. There was steady bidding for other issues at late rates. In insurances, South British continued firm, with buyers at 90s, yesterday’s sellers at 91s 6d having dropped out. Nationals were still wanted at 18s 9d. Buyers came in for New Zealands at 60s. In Government Stocks 1937-40’s were available at £lOl 15s, and 1943-46’s at £lO4.
