REVELLERS AT WORK
TAXIS COMMANDEERED FROM RANK INVERCARGILL, October 4. Alystcry surrounds the removal of two taxicabs from the Rod Band rank in Dee street about half-past 4 this morning. While two drivers on late shift slept soundly in the office, some persons took charge of one of the taxis and drove quietly away. It is known that about that hour a Red Band taxi crashed into a hedge in Duke street, and a man and a woman were seen to leave it. Later a second taxi was removed from the rank; at least, this is what one of the drivers believes, as he discovered it backed into the kerb with all the lights on not far from the rank. The first car had also been returned damaged. The police theory is that revellers commandeered the first car, and after the accident in Duke street coolly returned to the rank and removed the Second car in order to tow the first one.
