BOYS’ BRIGADE

OTAGO BATTALION’S ANNUAL PARADE The annual inspection and display by the Otago Battalion of the Boys’ Brigade was held in the Drill Hall on Saturday evening. There was a good representative muster of about 200 officers and boys taking part, including a company from Fort Chalmers, although there were counter-attractions. Air R. Duncan, battalion president, took the chair. The reveille was sounded at 7.45 by Corporal L. W. Duncan, and the parade fell in for devotional exercises, the service being conducted by the battalion chaplain, the Rev. R. L. Fursdon. The inspection took place immediately after, the inspecting officer being Lieutenant-colonel S. O. Scoular, and this was followed by the company displays, in which the boys were afforded an opportunity of showing tlie results of the work done during the year. The 7tli Dunedin Company presented squad drill, the 16th Dunedin Company physical training, the 11th Dunedin Company .stretcher drill, the 4th Dunedin Company a signalling display, the 17th Dunedin Company fire drill, and the 12th Dunedin Company team games. Addressing the spectators, the chairman said that the officers and boys had given a display which reflected consider able credit on all concerned, and he was sure the parents and friends who had witnessed the performance would be agreeably surprised at the amount ot valuable training which the boys were receiving. Ho wished to express his own gratification at the success which had attended their efforts and to appeal to the boys to carry on and improve on what had already been achieved, in order that they might become useful and valuable citizens. The boys would have further opportunities of extending their training, and to that end a camp would be held at Waikouaiti during the Christmas holidays. Lieutenant-colonel Scoular also spoke briefly, congratulating the officers and boys on the degree of efficiency wjjich had been achieved.
