[From Our Bm.ci.ut.ua Courbstondent.] CORONIAL INQUIRY. An inquiry into the. circumstances surrounding tbo death, of Edward Collin, who was drowned in Kaitangata Lake on Wednesday, was bold • at Lovell’s Flat on Thursday, before Air F. Carson, J.P., acting-coroner, and a. jury of four. The evidence .showed that the deceased was in the habit of crossing the canal in a boat when going to and from his work at Lovell’s hlat. He had been suffering from a severe attack of lumbago lately, and it was surmised 1 hat lie had a .seizure when getting out of the boat, with the result that befell into the water and was drowned. The jury returned a verdict that deceased died through being accidentally drowned through falling out of the boat while crossing the creek on liis way to work. FISHING SEASON. The fishing season opened on Thursday, and some fair baskets wore reported. Fishing in the Molynenx, L. Fallowfield secured a basket of 11 nice (Hi, weighing from 11b to 41b; E. Fallowfield caught eight, the heaviest being 41b; L. M'Kay secured nine, the heaviest being st-lb; R. Patterson got five, a six-pounder being included; and L. Cockerill secured seven. All the fish were in good'condition. On the Kaihiku Mr J. Geggie caught a dozen, while a Dunedin angler caught seven nice fish wtih the minnow in the Owaka. This stream was a bit dirty, and not many had luck. The Glenomaru Stream was Tow and clear, and the best catch reported was that of Air W. Arthur and Mrs Arthur, who got a dozen between them. The Pomahaka was in good order, and the fish in good condition. G. Bcllaney caught six, averaging up to 3]lb, while W. Nehoff-secured eight.Tbo Pnerna was a bit on tbo low side, and no big catches were reported. RUGBY WIND-UP. Last night the Clntha Football Club held a social evening to wind up the season There was a large attendance and a very happy time was spent by all. Air C. Clark presided, and during tbo course of.the evening Air D. Mulvcy, president of the S.O. Rugby Union, presented the senior cup, won by the club. Opportunity was also taken to present the secretary (Air E. G. Gill) with an attache case" as a mark of appreciation of his services. Tbo usual toasts were duly honoured, and a successful function was brought to a close about midnight. COURSING. The South Otago Coursing Club conducted a meeting on the Balclutlia plumptou on Saturday afternoon, tbo competition being for the Keith Cup. Eight dogs took part, and the coursing was very interesting. The final bad to be run off twice, the first run being undecided. The officials for the day were Afessrs D. Sinclair (judge), Air W. Alayne" (judge’s clerk), Air F. Alitchell (slipper), and Air AV. Edwards (call steward). The winner was Air i. APDowelTs Leas Worry, with Air das. Gold’s Pot Luck runner-up. Pot Luck, 3-0. The cup was presented to the winner at a social function held after tbo meeting. Air D. Sinclair made the presentation, and congratulated Mr APDowell on bis success, the latter suitably reply- ; ing.
