CHECK ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

Month in, month out owners expect their cars to function with little or no attention. They tend only to those jobs which are obvious to keep the car running—namely, refuelling, toppingup the water, and so on. The connections in the electrical system are invariably overlooked. It is important that they shoilld never be neglected; they will not only lead to erratic running, but sudden complete failures may also result. The battery terminals should be tightened; periodically examine all connections and see that the terminals arc screwed down firmly, also make sure that connections are clean. Loose or dirty connections will put up the current consumption and reduce the voltage available at the points of consumption, such as the coil, the lamps, horn, and so on. It is not always realised that a loose connection on the battery is the cause of lamps burning out owing to a jump in voltage on the closed circuits, resulting from the dynamo feeding direct to the lamps instead of passing the current through the battery first.
