STICKING ACCELERATOR

Sticking of the accelerator pedal in down or open throttle position is a dangerous and annoying happening. The usual causes are lack of lubrication of the various .points of the linkage. The cross shaft as fitted in some cases niay be binding in the two bearings due to dryness, heat, or pane! distortion. Another cause is tightness of the accelerator pump plunger or pin. Sometimes the pin will slide over and foul the housing. Take no chances with the accelerator mechanism, _ but if it does happen to stick due to tightness or a broken return spring, switch off, engage neutral, and stop the car for investigation.
