CRANKCASE DILUTION

As the colder weather becomes more noticeable extra care is required to avoid troubles due to crankcase dilution. Certain late model cars are equipped with automatic devices that regulate the degree of choke opening and control water temperature and manifold heat. Early types and later models wherein these functions are not automatically carried out, rely upon the driver’s judgment for the best running conditions. Do not use the choke any more than is necessary for starting and warming up. Avoid idling for lengthy periods. Regulate air shutters (where fitted) to maintain full running temperature, between ISOdeg and ISOdeg. Use a lighter bodied oil. Some over-cooled cars will perform better without a fan belt, or the blades or half of them might be removed. A piece of metal can be used to blank off one-third to one-half of the radiator core for warmer running. It is usually placed at tho rear of the core, out of sight.
