NEW BRIDGE OPENED

ACCIDENT FEW HOURS LATER [Pee' Ukited Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 5. “ I am determined to improve the highways of this country, and to widen them and cut out dangerous zigzagging climbs wherever possible,” said Mr Semple, Minister of Transport, at the opening of Paremata Bridge. Mr Semple said the proposed road from Plimmerton to Paekakariki would cost £200,000, and there would be 300 or 400 men working before many months. A few hours after the opening of the bridge the first smash occurred half a mile away between two motor oars. One of the vehicles was badly damaged, but no one was hurt.
