MATAKI DIVIDEND. A Wellington Association message states that the Stock Exchange has re : ceived a telegram that the Mataki Company has declared a dividend of Id, payable on October 14. Noon call: Broken Hill Proprietary, 67s 4Jd; Consolidated Brick, 9s 6d; G. J. Coles (rights). 335. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs;—Steady bidding took place at the first dill of the week. In the banking section a noticeable feature was a slight firming in New Zealands. Buyers at tho last sale gave 38s fid, but the lowest sellers asked 39s 3d. Commercials were again in. demand at 18s 4d, but holders moved up a penny to 18s 7d. Preference sold Is fid higher, at £9 3s fid, with a subsequent market between £9 2s fid and JH9 ss. New South Wales sold unchanged at £32 12s fid, after which sellers- withdrew leaving buyers in at £32 7s fid. In insurances the chief feature was a further firming in South British, which had buyers at 90s and sellers Is fid higher. In Australian industrials, Broken Hills and Colonial Sugars were the most prominent. The former sold higher at 77s 3d, with more wanted at that price, and sellers twopence above. Colonial Sugars had the best sale for some time with a transaction at £43 ss, a rise of 7s fid. Sellers then withdrew, and buyers, were still in at.£43. Goldsbroughs were offered cheaper at 33s 9d, and Woohvorths • (Sydney) were slightly firmer,' between £5 7s fid and £5 10s. In local issues Auckland Gas looked slightly firmer, with sellers higher at 23s 2d and buyers steady at 22s Od. Mining had few changes. Marthas were quoted from 20s Id to 20s 3d. Government Stocks were in steady demand for all issues, the only offering being of 1937-40’s, for which £lOl 15s was wanted. Amalgamated Brick Debentures sold 5s lower at £99 15s, after which the market was between £99 and £IOO.
