■ —I J G. P. CHAMBERS FOR WELLINGTON Swimming in Dunedin will suffer a loss by the departure at the end of the present- month of G. P. Chambers, who has received a Government appointment in Wellington. Chambers is one of the most promising breast stroke swimmers New Zealand has yet produced, and in 1935 he won the Otago junior boys’ 75yds breast stroke championship, following this up by winning the New Zealand junior boys’ title at Tiraaru in Imin Isec. He set a new-New Zealand junior boys’ record of sSsec, and this he lowered to. 56sec on September 23, 1935, the latter mark still standing; Last season Chambers won the Otago 100, yds intermediate boys’ breast stroke championship, and at Hamilton last Saturday filled second place in the New Zealand intermediate championship, being narrowly beaten by K. Shaw, of Southland, Chambers has been coached throughr out his career by Mr A. Greig, and., during tho last two seasons has represented the intermediate and junior members on the committee of the Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club. His departure will be much regretted, for he is a popular and unassuming young sportsman.
