PAINTING OF CANBERRA [Pek Uxjted Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 3. In a letter from Atr J. A. Lyons, Prime Alinistcr of Australia, to Air Savage, the former states that his Goxormnent has learned xvith very great interest of tho establishment of a National Art Gallery. Ho and his colleagues are desirous of marking the occasion by presenting to the gallery a painting xvbich will be typical of the Federal capital. The Gommonxx'ealth Government desired (he said) as an expression of the goodxvill and iutei'cst of the Australian people in the cultural progx - ess and dex’elopment of New Zealand that the gallery should accept a painting of Canberra.
The execution of the painting has been entrusted to Air Robert Johnson, a xvell-known landscape painter, of Sydney (formerly of New Zealand), xvho xvill commence xvork on the painting almost immediately.
