When Too Much Salt Is Used. When vegetables, stews, etc., have been over-salted, stretch a clean cloth tightly over the saucepan and sprinkle with "flour, allow to remain steaming for a few minutes, when the surplus salt will be absorbed. For the Cheese Dish. A sugar lump placed in with the piece of cut cheese will keep it beautifully moist and fresh. For the Woman Who Gardens. If after gardening your hands are uncomfortably rough and dry lather them well with soap, then put a teaspoonful of sugar in one palm and pour on top a little olive oil. Rub over the hands thoroughly, wash off in warm water, when a soft, comfortable feeling once again reigns. For the Inexperienced Cook. When boiling old potatoes that are inclined to be dark in colour, add a slice of lemon to the saucepan when cooking. When mashed they will be beautifully white. When Posting a Parcel on Rainy Days. When addressing a parcel to be taken to the post in wet weather rub a candle over the address. This makes the ink waterproof. When a Room Has Been Freshly Painted. To remove the unpleasant smell of strong paint take a large onion, pee] and split with a knife from top to root all round, and place on a thicklysprinkled plate of salt. Leave this in the room over night, when the paint odour will practically havo disappeared.
