His Lordship Bishop Whyte travelled to Timaru by this morning’s express to attend the silver jubilee of the Catholio Church. • Mr C. Mr Philip Barling lias returned to Dunedin after a visit to Sydney. Mr Harman Reeves, chairman of the Dunedin Stock Exchange, has returned to Dunedin after a six weeks’ visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr Colin D. Stevens, a member of tho local staff of the Union Steam Ship Company, and well known to travellers by Union Airways, has been appointed to a position on the bead office management staff, and left by the second express to-day for Wellington. On the eve of bis departure Mr Stevens was presented with a leather suit case from the staffs at Dunedin and Port Chalmers. A Press Association cable message from Melbourne states that Ray Trewern ("New Zealand! is one-of the eight finalists in the ‘ Sun ’ newspaper aria contest at the Ballarat Competition*. The well-known former All Black Rugby footballer Mr R. Souter has received notice of his'transfer to Napier, and will leave to take up his new position next week. Mr Sonter was a member of the New Zealand team that visited Australia in 1929, and played for Otago on 25 occasions in the 1927-28-29-30-31 seasons, being a member of the Otago side in the match with th® British team. He lias been a prominent member of the Alhambra Club, and was coach of the senior fifteen during last season. Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Mr C. Smith (Wellington). Mr C. Henbam (Christchurch), Mrs V. C. Meehan (Timaru), Mr and Mrs H. H. Doughty (Gore), and Mr and Mrs L. R. W’oods (Bluff).
