WAVERLEY RATEPAYERS

A largely-attended meeting of tho Waverley Ratepayers and Householders’ Association was held at Waverley last evening. Tho formation of Beach street again came' up for discussion. In replyvto from tbo Peninsula County Council stating that, owing to the impossibility of providing a satisfactory grade, the proposed work could not be carried out in the meantime, the secretary was instructed to write to the county pointing out that a survey of the road revealed that if a cutting 4ft 6in deep was put _in the crest of the hill it would provide the road with a grade that compared very favourably with other roads in ' the district; and also to ask that Abbotsford, Larnach, and Shandon roads (the main roads of the district) bo surfaced in accordance, with the times. This matter caused considerable discussion, some of the members stating that worse roads could not be found in the back country districts. The president (Mr W. V, Stunner) pointed out that 'Waverley Bay had become a very popular swimming resort, and moved that tho Harbour Board bo asked to clear up the bay and place a few loads loads in it. At present it was very dangerous owing to a number of broken piles.
