TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
DEPARTMENT’S OFFICERS UNBIASSED
[From Our PAKLiAMESTAar Beporteb.l
WELLINGTON, September 30 v The Minister in charge of Tourist' * Publicity, Mr Langstone, has provided another reassuring reply to a complaint voiced by Mr Hargest (Awarua) that the South Island fails to receive adequate attention when overseas tourists desire information.
The Minister declares that the department’s officers throughout the Dominion are absolutely impartial in regard to what part of the Dominion visitors are booked to. The wishes of the client and the time available are the only factors in arranging itineraries. A majority of the officers in the Auckland and Rotorua bureaux were born, educated, and trained in the South Island, and have visited every tourist resort there. He adds: “My department is at present working on a special booklet dealing solely with the South Island. The illustrations in our de luxe literature show fully as many South Island views as North. A new film also dealing entirely with South Island scenio attractions has recently been produced in conjunction with' South Island interests. The department is always willing, and m every way assisted towards directing visitors to the South Island and in developing the undoubted tourist attractions there.”
