ANNUAL ORIENTAL SALE
WOMEN'S MISSIONARY ASSOCIATION Comprising a diversity of Oriental goods and craft exhibitions, the sale conducted under the auspices of the Presbyterian Women’s Mission of Dunedin and Central Otago Presbyteries for foreign and home missions was accorded excellent support this morning. The Knox Church Sunday School Hall was filled very shortly after the doors had opened, the ladies on the stalls being extended to cope with the insistent demands of the purchasers. The stalls were very attractively arranged around the sides and in the centro of the hall, which was becomingly decorated with greenery. Chinese work had the largest representation, with applique, punched, and hand-work articles providing a very good display. These articles had the most popular appeal, and a wide selection was offered. Another stall which attracted much interest was that which contained the genuine Ming Dynasty cloisomme, brassware, and pottery. Several excellent and rare pieces were exhibited, giving a fine representation of the standard of work of the Oriental craftsmen. Teapots and blackwoodware were also on show, and an unusual fender stool of the same material. This was exquisite work, and was fully appreciated, attracting much admiring attention. An innovation was introduced by a stall which was adorned with samples of Maori handiwork. This was limited, but the articles themselves were of high order, comprising scarves, bookmarks, and a multiplicity of stationery, such as note books and blotting pads, also poi-poi balls, both mfniature and the usual size. .
A dash of colour was given by bright kimonos and Nankin tapestry, and the stall of fresh spring flowers. Sweets, cakes, preserves, and other produce was delightfully arranged on a large stall, and afternoon tea was provided for the ladies.
