ABYSSINIAN EMPEROR
SUGGESTED ABDICATION DENIED BY LONDON EMBASSY Presi Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 30. (Received October 1, at 10.5 a.m.) Quick wits at Geneva scented a hint of the Emperor’s abdication in the speech of the Abyssinian delegate, Taezaz, at the Assembly that to save human lives and maintain an independent home for his people the Emperor must now regard himself bound to consent to sacrifice of his rights guaranteed under the Covenant. The Abyssinian Legation in London promptly denied that the Emperor has any intention of abdicating. It later amplified this announcement to the effect that the Emperor, while never giving up his sovereignty, was always willing to make sacrifices -for the purpose of accord with Italy. ** A RIDICULOUS IDEA" ROME, September 30. (Received October 1, at 10.5 a.m.) Any idea of Selassie bargaining with Italy for retention of part of hfs former unoccupied territory is dismissed as ridiculous.
