ANXIETY IN THE PACIFIC
FUTURE OF BRITISH SHIPPING “ TALK GALORE BUT UOTHIKC DUKE " Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright , LONDON, September 27. The ‘Daily Mail’’ says: “Lord Rothermere, who is visiting Honolulu, has cabled emphasising the anxiety in the Pacific with regard to thq future of British shipping in view of the
United States, Germany, Italy, and Japan subsidising their fleets. He supports the provision of a £4,000,000 loan which would cause no more loss to Britain than financially assisting with the building of the Mauretania and the Queen Mary, as the ships would pay interest and return the capital within 20 years.” The ‘Daily Mail,’ in a leader, recalls Mr Alexander Shaw’s unanswered appeal last year, and says: “ There has been talk galore but nothing done.” It insists that the Government must shake off its lethargy and brush aside obstructionists.
