FINE AND COLD The following weather forecast w*a. issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the south-, ern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— l The recent depressions have now passed away and a rather intense anti-cyclone is advancing across the North Tasman Sea. Forecast: Light to moderate southwest to westerly winds, veering later gradually to northerlies. Weather fair to fine. Cold night to-night with some frosts, but milder to-morrow.. Seats moderate. FINE AND SUNNY. Rain commenced falling heavily about 5.30 p.m. yesterday, to continue intermittently all evening. This, morning the fall had ceased, and although the sky was partially overcast and a cold south-westerly wind was in evidence, the sun shone brightly all morning. Later the sky cleared to a great extent. Low temperatures were apparent yesterday, the readings for 24 hours being 49.3 deg maximum and 37.3 deg minimum. To-day the registrations were 53.1 deg and 48deg, as compared with 45deg and 40deg, until 12.80 p.m. yesterday. There was no frost last evening, and th 6 rainfall totalled .Ooin. At noon to-day. the barometer showed a steady pressure of 29.65 i n; yesterday the reading was 29.5, also steady. Indications at thiq time were favourable, the afternoon promising to be fine and sunny.
