OTAGO MODEL MAKERS

INTERESTING EXHIBITS ON SHOW Mr L. Boyce presided over the monthly meeting, at which there was a good attendance of members. Many interesting models were on view. A working model of a “ Bear Cat ” grab excavator and a locomotive crane by Mr J. P. S. Orr created much interest. It took a good load in the scoop and deposited it just where required, everything operating exactly as in the_ real machine. A particularly fine cylinder casting made by Mr J. Gault was* a masterpiece of moulding art. A fourstroke petrol engine by Mr A. T. Scott showed good workmanship. Mr H. L. Thomson—an “O ” gauge loco, and a 4-6-2 2\ gauge one in course of construction had a very racy appearance, and gave promise of power and speed. A reversing oscillating and also a vertical steam engine, brought by Mr I. C. Inglis. were of a novel type and were eagerly inspected. Messrs Millard and Dick are making a lathe, and the head and tail stock showed excellent construction. A cylinder in brass and miscellaneous gear of good workmanship completed the models on view. The society’s “ O ” gauge track is so far completed that portion was laid down in time for the meeting. It promises to be most realistic when completed. Members took the opportunity of congratulating Mr W. Angus on the very successful trial flight of his power aeroplane, particularly as it is the first model to take the air under engine power. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr M. H. Earland for his gift of pictures for the club room. Messrs Roy MTvor (Otautau), H. Halcror/, and K. Lindsay were welcomed as new members.
